Play-off mobilization: “There are ten more matches, ten finals”
Politehnica Timişoara achieved its first objective in the 2020-21 season by accessing the League 2 play-off. The next step – the fight for access to the elite – begins this weekend, when our team evolves on the Danube Calarasi field.
The course of the regular season, as well as the hopes at the beginning of the second part of the season, were the topics addressed today by the president Viorel-Aurel Şerban and the head coach Dan Alexa during an online press conference.
“I express my satisfaction and joy that our team managed at the end of last week this special performance, to qualify in this play-off tournament 2020-21 of League 2. I consider it a performance that deserves the appreciation of all sports lovers in this part of the country. A team that proposed at the beginning of the championship the problem of a run in emergency mode, which was not given any chance in this championship, managed to qualify before some teams, which, not only announced from the start the goal of promote, but as a consequence they have allocated impressive amounts for the objective, here I mean «U» Cluj, Petrolul, Farul and Concordia. I was saying that we should enjoy this, because a team that was founded out of the love of the fans and under the logistical support of a prestigious university, managed in just eight years this performance to fight for promotion to the first league. We must thank all those who contributed to this, I hope that things will not stop here. Our goal was precisely to become a leading representative of this part of the country, to make all of us who are sports lovers happy. At the same time, I certainly can’t hide the fact that I was a little worried and worried that in the last two games the team, practically, I can say that it crashed, not only the results but also the team’s game did not live up to our expectations. But I am convinced that it was a temporary situation… I believe that the team will fight and we will continue our journey for this extraordinary dream, on the centenary of the Polytechnic, to promote in the first league. There are ten more matches, ten finals, in which we will have to prove what made the team in the top six: the ability to fight, the desire to serve the colors of the Polytechnic, the determination and, last but not least, the sporting qualities of the players. “, said Viorel-Aurel Şerban, the president of the Politehnica Timişoara.
“In the summer there were 15 players, three went to a lower level, important things were done. Here I want to thank Mr. Şerban, Druckeria, because what is happening in Timişoara is a special case. And I can argue from all points of view, there are people who have often put their family behind them and helped Poli, it’s a lot of volunteering, in other places we can’t talk about it, and I think this crazy passion of ours made things work. We took it step by step, so far we are on schedule. Sure, there are grievances about certain matches, but I’m telling you that what’s happening here now is like a miracle. But to complete it, we have to promote! ”, Said Dan Alexa, the head coach of the white-violets.
At the match on the shore of Borca, our team will be deprived of the services of captain Ioan Mera, suspended, but also of those of midfielder Ionuţ Cioinac, injured. Also, the Polytechnic technician is suspended for the first two stages of the play-off.
“I am emotionally connected to Călăraşi, I made notable performances (he promoted, for the first time, the Danube in League I), I made a lot of friends there, it’s a very dear place for me. It’s normal to be like that. I knew I could get into the play-offs, although they had some financial problems, but the very good relations I have, especially with Mr. Grama (nn Eduard Grama), I knew that they will be solved, they have a very good group of players. , have a very experienced coach. The rider will fight for promotion. It will be a difficult match, they have players I know very well, who can make a difference, they have a balanced team, one of the best teams in League 2. We are going to play, I expect first of all from my determination team and to play with a lot of passion and enjoy this moment… I was joking with Grama after the last match, that they were very happy, I also thank Mr. Grama for his help, even if they helped them in the first place, I thank him very much much (as a joke…). But it’s a special match, it’s the first one in the playoffs, it’s very important how we start, it’s important not to lose, and in order to get something in Calarasi you have to make a very good match. My players must understand that if we evolve as we did with Pandurii and Chiajna, we have no chance”, Dan Alexa underlined.
The match Dunărea Călăraşi – Politehnica Timişoara will be played on Saturday, at 9.30 pm (Digisport), in the first stage of the League 2 play-off. Our team (6th place) starts the second part of the season from the quota of 32 points, two less than the group prepared by Cristian Pustai (2nd place). Those who want to support the white-violets in this difficult journey can buy virtual tickets from the Polytechnic shop.
