Politehnica Timişoara has a new head coach starting on June 22nd of 2021. Dorin Toma, from Maramureş County, signed Politehnica for a year, with the right to extend for another season. Dorin Toma (44 years old) coached Minaur Baia Mare in the 3rd League until the winter. He also activated at the level of the second League with FC Maramureş team during 2015-’16 season.
Our new Coach spoke today with the media reps for the first time since signing. “I am just happy to take over this team. I know I’m coming after Dan Alexa, after a good season, a very good ranking last season… It won’t be easy for me, it’s a pressure I put on myself due to the fact that a lot of players already left the club. We don’t want to hurry, we want to take things step by step. Let’s analyze very well the new players we will need to bring to Poli. We are in a process of reorganization. We’ll try to find the best options and to integrate them in the shortest possible time frame to make a competitive team for the next season”, Dorin Toma said.
“I cannot say that it was a easy or difficult to be convinced of taking this decision. I also really wanted to re-enter the Ligue 2 circuit. It is a mutual help, which they offered me and what I accepted. It is also a challenge for me and I want to have a better path than I had with Baia Mare in League 2, when I was on the verge of promotion. If we manage to bring the players we want and to follow exactly our principles, we want to have an equally good ranking or if possible even better than this previous season (…) The structure of the championship will be the same as last year , there will be no round trip, only one match, it’s quite difficult, it also depends on the luck in the draw which will set up the timetable, but we have to trust. I trust the players we have now, that we can make a beautiful finish line for the next season”, Politehnica new Coach said. He will collaborate with the staff already present in our club and will team up, among others, with the second Coaches, Antonio Foale and Petru Ţurcaş.
“The choice for Dorin Toma was neither easy nor simple. We had several rounds of talks, with several coaches and of course, not only with those who wanted to come or who we thought they met the demands that this club must have, but also discussions with a number of people around the world of football, to choose the best coach for the moment. I’m saying “the current moment” because, indeed, Politehnica Timişoara has concluded a championship, even a cycle, with unexpected hopes at its beginning, to fighting to promote in the first league at the end. Hopes that could be certainties and with little chance and more organization on our part…”, explained Viorel-Aurel Şerban, Politehnica Timişoara President.
“We have been in League 2 for six years and from year to year our results have been getting better. And we wish of having very good results in the 2021-’22 season. The competition starts on July 31st, apparently the competition will be identical and the same as what happened in 2020-’21, without any changes. Dorin Toma, who is our new coach, corresponds from all points of view to the profile we were looking for as a coach at this moment for our club”, said Marius Cociu, Sports Manager with Politehnica.
Politehnica Timişoara reunion was scheduled for ghe morning of June 23rd, on “Stiința” Arena. Over the next few days we will present more information about the team’s schedule and plans for the pre-season.
