Politehnica got off to a bad start in the new season. FC Universitatea Cluj won 3-0 (3-0) at home after a nightmarish first half for the white-violet team.

The white-violet had a nightmarish first half at the Cluj Arena, where they were accompanied by a large contingent of fans despite the Tuesday schedule.

V. Alexandru opened the scoring for the hosts in the 10th minute with a shot from the centre of the box. At 1-0, in the 30th minute Mera was tackled in the opponent’s box by Balgiu, but play was allowed to continue. Two minutes later Hofman increased the gap with a long-range shot from the edge of the box, and immediately on the next action in the 34th minute Ribeiro took advantage of a misplaced pass to make it 3-0 to the hosts. By half-time our team had one more dangerous action through Axente, whose shot was rejected by Micle to Radu, signalled in offside (min. 35), then the same Denis Radu almost reached a dangerous deflected ball to the long corner of the “U” goal.

The second half was much more balanced. The 50th minute brought a left-footed shot by Sofran, which was saved in the corner by Micle. Then Benzar and Ursu added technical quality. Although Politehnica had more possession in the next few minutes, it was still the hosts who came closest to another goal. As it happened in the 65th minute, when Blejdea was blocked by Păduraru. And Pîrvulescu also sent dangerously wide in the 82nd minute, when his shot was deflected over the goal.
