Politehnica Timisoara won today on the field of Unirea Slobozia, with a lot of effort and spirit of sacrifice, the tickets for the Romanian Cup final round! The only goal of the match was scored by Octavian Ursu in the 62nd minute with a very nice execution.

The first goal actions belonged to the hosts, who threatened more dangerously through Suciu in the 22nd minute, but his rebound was on the direction of Harrrison, making his debut in an official game in Politehnica’s goal. Five minutes later the white-violet had an important action, but Bocșan shot over the crossbar after a ball received from Mera.

Claudiu Pamfile was injured in the first half. And at the end of no less than five extra minutes Trașcă sent an inaccurate shot from in front of the box wide of the goal. At half-time captain Ioan Mera was also substituted for medical reasons.

The second half started with another notable chance in the right of the Union. But Mustacă shot inaccurately left-footed from the middle of the box in the 49th minute. Gradually the white-violet began to make their presence more felt in the opponent’s half. Initially on the counter. In one such phase Politehnica opened the scoring in the 62nd minute. Zaluschi launched Ursu towards the opponent’s goal and he, from about 35 meters away, shot superbly over the goalkeeper Poiană. In the 68th minute Zaluschi could have scored a goal, but his header from in front of the box was saved by the goalkeeper slightly to his left. A mistake could have brought the equaliser in the 77th minute, but again the hosts were imprecise in finishing, this time through Turcu.

In the 87th minute Harrison saved his teammates from another tough finish with an excellent intervention at the bar to his left from a well-placed header by the same Turcu. In the end the white-violet managed to preserve the result very well this time. In the second minute of extra time Hațegan came hard on Gabriel Lazăr and the opposing defender replied and hit him in the face area. Both players were directly sent off by “central” Claudiu Marcu.

Politehnica thus qualifies for the second season in a row in the Romanian Cup final round. Our team’s next game will be on Sunday, at 11.00, against Viitorul Pandurii Tg. Jiu, also “out”, a match that counts for the 8th round of the League 2.
