The white-violet didn’t manage to get any points from today’s trip to Transylvania either. It was Unirea Dej – Politehnica Timișoara, score 2-0, a result established at half-time in the match that counted for the 12th round of League 2.

Our team had a great chance after nine minutes of play, but Gerbi sent in a block after an assist from Ursu, who was knocked down from behind. The hosts opened the scoring in the 21st minute following a very strange phase. Manole sent over from a softly awarded free kick, the ball was deflected behind a teammate and Frăsineanu bounced the ball over Harrison, who came out to meet, the ball was cleared off the goal line and the flag was raised from the edge of the box. Referee Andrei Țiții awarded the goal to the hosts at the end of the half despite protests.

A quarter of an hour later Blaj, on the back line, won a penalty after a challenge by Mera. From the spot Manole converted with a shot to the right of Harrison, who had sensed the direction but could not stop the ball.

Politehnica then had more possession but couldn’t find the right solutions in attack. Ursu, with a quarter of an hour to go, angled inside the box, had one of the last notable moves of the game.

After this failure our team remains in 15th place with ten points after 12 games in League 2 2021-22. Politehnica’s next game will be next Saturday at home against Șelimbăr.

“As we expected, it was a difficult game, first of all because it came at a very short distance from the game against Rapid, where the energy consumption was very high. We started the game well, we had a huge chance, at 0-0, from an action by Ursu and a miss by Gerbi, from a very good position. Then we conceded two goals. One from a free kick which, in my opinion, didn’t exist. A deflected ball and after that a suspicious offside position. I wouldn’t want to comment on that, I’d like to see it, but clearly in my view there was no foul on that free kick. And shortly afterwards… a penalty. We tried to get back into the game in the second half. Unfortunately even though most of the time we stayed in the opponent’s half, we didn’t manage to create clear scoring chances. We had a bar, Mera’s header, but even that was called a foul in attack, a foul that in my opinion didn’t even exist“, Nicolae Croitoru, Politehnica Timisoara head coach.
