Today, at the Casa Fotbalului, the draw for the quarter-finals of the Romanian Cup 2021-22 took place. Politehnica Timișoara will face FC Argeș in a one-off match on home ground!
The quarter-final matches of the Romanian Cup:
Politehnica Timișoara – Champions FC Argeș
FC Buzău – FC Voluntari
Chindia Târgoviște – Sepsi OSK
ACSO Filiași – Universitatea Craiova
“I had a hunch, when I looked at the draw and saw FC Argeș, I said: Poli Timișoara. I don’t know, I had such a hunch… It will be an interesting game, with a good team from League I… A very well organised team, at least on the defensive play. I think it will be an interesting game. It’s a different competition, a competition that has brought us closer to what we actually want as a level of performance. I can’t say that I wanted a specific opponent because all the teams that have reached this stage are good teams. Even ACSO Filiași, which I think has earned the right to be respected by the results it has achieved in this competition. I can say that I didn’t want Universitatea Craiova. But we will try to have a good performance, just like we had against Rapid. Motivation is there of course… Of course, the home ground counts and I can say that this is what we wanted. Let’s hope that this time the spectators will have access to the stands, because it’s an interesting game”, Nicolae Croitoru, head coach of Politehnica Timișoara.
The games in this phase of the competition will take place between 30 November and 2 December this year, in a single leg on the field of the lowest ranked team in the last edition of the championship. The teams have been drawn from a single pool.
Our team has so far beaten Șoimii Lipova (2-1), Unirea Slobozia (1-1) and FC Rapid (2-0) in the knockout competition. On the other side, FC Argeș beat Dinamo (2-1) in the knockout stage and FC Botoșani (4-2) in the last 16.
