Octavian Ursu equalised and Ioan Mera scored the winning goal in yesterday’s 2-1 home win over CSA Steaua. Both scored with headers and dedicated their success to the fans who returned to the stands for the 15th round of the Ligii 2.
“I was confident that I could go in and be decisive, with the help of the supporters, who were wonderful. It was certainly harder without them, I’m the 12th player. You could see the spirit in the stands and we had the same feelings on the pitch. We are in a tough situation, but we managed to win in Brasov, we managed to do it now. We hope to make a surprise in the Romanian Cup and then finish with a win at Astra,” said Tavi Ursu, who entered the game from the 64th minute.
The 27-year-old attacking player admitted that headers are rarer for him: “It’s the second headed goal in my career. I’m glad it came, I was even thinking in training that I could score a headed goal and, why not, score in an official match. The first one was when I was 18, I made my debut with a headed goal in League 2″. It was the second goal of the season for Ursu, who also scored for Poli in the Cup duels with Slobozia and Rapid.
“It’s a great win, which we dedicate to our supporters, because they wanted this victory a lot. They suffered a lot in this round. We entered the match hard in the first half, it was theirs, in the second we dominated them from start to finish and I say our victory is deserved. At half-time we mobilised better and you could see that we came out more motivated for the second half. It certainly would have been different without the supporters. They supported us, they pushed us from behind, when we play with them we motivate ourselves better and it showed…“, said captain Ioan Mera, who has broken the ice in terms of goals this season.
