In 2016, Gloria Buzău, a club founded in 1971 and which participated several times in the first division (plus once in the Balkan Cup), disbanded, following financial difficulties and a huge betting scandal.

In the same year FC Buzău was founded, named, since 2017, SCM Gloria. In the first three seasons of its existence, the team managed three consecutive promotions, from D5 to D2!

Since, due to the club’s form of organisation, SCM Gloria did not have the right to promotion to League I, in the summer of 2021 it was transformed into a private law club, returning to its original name of FC Buzău. Since the summer of this year it has been called FC Gloria Buzău and has the right to use the Gloria Buzău brand, even though the club has never yet owned the Gloria palmares.
