Politehnica Timisoara football team drew in the 12th round of the League II. It was 1-1 (0-1) against Minaur Baia Mare at the Știința stadium.

The first half was evenly balanced, with the guests trying the goal from distance on a few occasions. Just before entering the dressing room, the team from Maramures county opened the scoring. The scorer, Stanciu, with a shot from 20 m in the 45th minute.

In the second half, boosted by Benzar and Zaluschi’s entries, the white-violet will dominate and try to overturn the result. They managed the equaliser. Benzar executed a free kick in the 63rd minute from 23 m slightly to the left side, the ball hit the “wall” and went into the net.

Poli presses, Baia Mare fights back. It is sometimes played on counters. Neither team manages a longer possession. The hosts ask for penalties twice. Tension is rising. It’s 90+5 minutes. The visitors’ captain, Colombian Mondragon, stops the ball with his hand in the box. It’s a clear penalty. The referee Olaru lets the game continue. Tension at the end.

Poli has shown a clear increase in form and manages to tie, for the first time this season, three consecutive official matches without defeat. However, the victory has been long awaited since stage 1, since that 1-0 win over Unirea Constanta…

Constrained by D. Radu’s injury, coach Benga started with 17-year-old junior A. Mada (son of former Poli and UMT central defender Călin Mada), a professional stoper, at right-back. Mada jr. acquitted himself excellently and proved that he is a player with prospects. In fact, several players from the 2004 squad of the Polist Academy were used in this match.

In the standings, Poli has only 8 points and is in 19th place, second last.
