ASU Poli was promoted to the Third League in 2015 after a battle with Ripensia. The match Ripensia – ASU Politehnica 2-6, on 7 March 2015, in the IV League, played on “Dan Paltinisanu”, in front of 6,000 spectators, remains memorable!
It was the most important match, until then, at the level of the 4th tier of Romanian football post-december. The match was without history. But it was a historic match! Sunny spring weather, a huge arena, with a few thousand people in the stands, which, unfortunately, is happening less and less in the First League. The South Lawn populated as it used to be, with police outlaws performing absolutely fantastic choreography, including firecrackers and pyrotechnics reminiscent of the incredible viola shows of the mid-90s. Plus a banner unique, perhaps, in world football, depicting the Polist “11”. On the pitch, the law was laid down by the guests. The white-violet, in 4-4-2, romped away, taking the score to 2-0 relatively quickly. The Red and Whites, in 4-2-3-1, missed the chance to get back into the game when Briciu missed a penalty. Sometime after the 70th minute, the game broke down. 0-3, 1-3, 1-5, 2-5, 2-6. Five goals scored in the last 10 minutes, with Tulcan ending the scoring apothectically. The difference was perhaps made by Politehnica’s experienced men, Naidin and O. Draghici (three goals in total), who shone compared to the pale performances of their Rpensi counterparts. The hosts seemed overwhelmed by the importance of the game, suffering enormously at set-pieces (two goals from corners and one from a free-kick) and reaching then three official matches and no wins with ASU Poli. It was a superb afternoon. Quality football, exceptional atmosphere, fair play.
