Decu Crângașu, former player of Politehnica Timisoara in the mid-70s, died today at the age of 72. More precisely, between 1975-1976, in the first division. He was a midfielder with an extremely powerful shot.

Known as Crîngașu I as a footballer, he was born on 5 May 1951. He played for Petrolul (where he made his most successful debut in Division A in 1969 and his last game in 1985), Politehnica Timișoara, UMT, CFR Timișoara and Chimia Brazi, as well as for the national junior, youth and Olympic teams. After his retirement he was a coach (at Conpet Ploiesti, Poiana Câmpina, Chimia Brazi, plus the Prahova Muntenia national team, in the UEFA Regions Cup), but also president of Conpet Ploiesti, director of CSM Ploiesti and observer of the Romanian Football Federation. Decu Crângașu contributed to the revival of Petrolul, being a founding member of the Petrolul 52 team, which in 2016 continued the tradition of the famous club from Prahova.

His younger brother, Silviu Crângașu (Crîngașu II, as a footballer, playing even for CFR Timișoara, where he was a teammate of Decu himself, in 1977-1978, in Division B), has long been the president of AJF Prahova.

Decu Crângașu, God rest your soul.
