One of the most renowned orthopaedic doctors in the country, Horia Vermeșan, passed away yesterday at the age of 78.
Horia Vermeșan was born on 31 August 1945, in Chevereșu Mare (Timișș county). He worked for more than four decades at the “Pius Brînzeu” County Emergency Hospital in Timișoara, was a university professor at the “Victor Babeș” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timișoara and was director of the Timiș Public Health Department.
But he also had great connections with football and Poli! He played – few people know this – for the children of Științei (Poli) Timișoara in the 1950s, alongside Nicolae Secoșan. He was even the senior team doctor at one time! He played mini-football regularly for years, in an old-boys’ team, together with the legendary announcer Nicolae Secoșan, with the former rector of UPT, Viorel-Aurel Șerban, with the former Pol goalkeeper Radu Suciu, with the economics professor Nicolae Țăran…
He has “put back on his feet” many footballers, white-blue and not only, following injuries.
Horia Vermeșan was a great polist. God rest his soul.
