Politehnica Timișoara starts on Saturday, March 22, the play-off phase of League 3, Series 9, edition 2024-25, with a home game against CSC Ghiroda and Giarmata Vii. Fix the formation met in the previous game at the Electrica arena.
The Alb-violets occupy first place before the first round of the second phase of the championship, with 34 points, with a lead of just two points over the second-placed Minerul Lupeni, and three points over the teams ranked 3-4, Progresul Pecica and CSC Ghiroda. They will play in a round-robin system, nine games each, with our team being advantaged by the fact that they will play five matches at home (including twice against the second-placed team), as a result of their first-place finish at the end of the regular season. The top two teams at the end of the play-off will qualify for the promotion play-off semi-finals, where their opponents will be the occupants of the first two places in Series 10.
“We are happy to start the play-off because it was quite hard to get into it. The positive results in the last period brought us here. Indeed we start the play-off at home against Ghiroda, with whom we have now played another game at home, but it will definitely be a completely different game because the play-off matches will be different from the regular league. I expect a different game, the stakes are much higher now. It’s the top two places that go into the promotion play-offs and then it will definitely be different. Not necessarily because of the fact that we won the last game, but actually because the stakes are much higher.
It will be a very tough fight, because the teams are balanced in terms of value, about the same value level and probably the moment form of the teams on game days will make the difference and maybe sometimes the enthusiasm and other things like that,” said Cristian Gălan, head coach of Politehnicii Timisoara.
“For the most part we are okay, we have a medical problem with Avrămescu because he played in the juniors and after that game he experienced some pain and didn’t train. We are fine as a squad, whoever takes the field has to do the maximum for Poli,” said Cristian Gălan about the medical situation of the squad.
The average age of the current squad is 19.78 years and 17 of the 27 players first played for Poli in the juniors before making the step up to the first team. Other youngsters from the Politehnica academy often take part in training.
“We try to call as many players from the Academy as possible to have contact with the first team, but since the beginning of the year about the same 26-27 players have been in training, but we have watched every game of the youth and Under 17 team in the last few rounds since the championship resumed and there are interesting players that we will bring to training with us in the next period” ,Gălan added.
The match Politehnica Timisoara – CSC Ghiroda and Giarmata Vii will be played on Saturday, March 22, from 3 p.m., at Electrica Stadium, in the first round of the play-off of League 3. In the previous duel between the two, in the penultimate round of the regular season, in front of a nearly full stadium, our team won 5-0, a result that had qualified for the play-off and had climbed to first place in C9.
“We would be happy to have a full stadium, we would be happy that people are with us, cheering from the first to the last minute and we would be happy that at the end we can reward them with a success!”, concluded the Politehnica coach.
