The Polytechnic Academy has a new coordinator in the person of Professor Alin Ionescu. As well as the entire blue and white club, our children’s and juniors’ centre is also undergoing a process of reorganisation and streamlining.
“I was asked by the club to take on the role of coordinator of the children and youth centre. Polytechnics are never turned down and that’s how it should be for everyone. I accepted mainly because I’ve been with the club for many years, right from when the rise of the Children’s and Junior Centre began. I came to the club in 2016, back then there were only two groups in the club… I wish that all Politehnis would be with us. That’s how I see it, unity is very important, group unity, that’s the only way we can grow together. One of the first projects I propose is to gather talented children, to guide them towards high performance football”, said Alin Ionescu.
Alin Ionescu was born on 9 July 1980 in Timișoara. He started playing football at FC Politehnica Timișoara and then was a junior at LPS Banatul, a teammate of Dan Alexa and Cristian Dancia. He played in League 3 for Obilici Sânmartinu Sârbesc and Știința Timișoara, Politehnica’s team in 2000. After an injury, he moved to coaching also in the Politehnica University club, later he worked as a coach and also fulfilled the role of head of the children and juniors centre of the CFR Timișoara club. He holds a UEFA A licence and is also a physical education and sports teacher at the “Nikolaus Lenau” High School in Timișoara. The new coordinator of the Politehnica Academy trained the 2004 generation of the club before and is now also the coach of the youngest group of the Centre, the group of kids born in 2016!
“The goal of every club should be to raise valuable players from their own nursery for the club’s senior team and beyond. Let’s raise them and bring them up as much as possible. It’s gratifying, however, that from our nursery, there are a few players who have actually made the step up to the big team, who have also confirmed. We want as many of them as possible to come through. We have the courage, but we also have to be patient with them, because they are inexperienced, they are prone to mistakes and we have to support them”, Alin Ionescu, coach coordinator of Politehnica Timisoara Academy.
