Politehnica Timisoara ended the year on an upward trend. Despite a start of the 2024-25 season with oscillating results in Series 9 of League 3, the young white-violets have left their supporters with four consecutive victories in the championship, currently occupying 4th place, thanks to the superior league position of Minerul Lupeni, one position below.

There are still three rounds of the regular season to be played, after which the top four teams qualify for the play-offs, while the remaining six teams will play in the play-out. In the Romanian Cup, our team was eliminated in the third round by second division CSC Dumbrăvița. Poli went straight through to the second round, where they overcame fellow runners-up Progresul Pecica, after a penalty shoot-out.

The previous run of four matches without defeat included two wins and two draws. The clearest victories were 3-0 (away to Avântul Periam and Gloria LT Cermei; at home to leaders CSC Peciu Nou!).

All the four defeats in the championship (five if we include the Cup duel with CSC Dumbrăvița) were by one goal difference. What’s more, two of them came in extra time (both by 1-2 and away, against CSC Ghiroda and Lotus Băile Felix).

Politehnicii’s C9 top line includes seven wins, four draws and four defeats. Golaverage 21-12 (the third best offense in the series, respectively the best defense along with three other teams). We have a total of 25 points (from 15 games played), five points away from 1st place and two points away from 2nd place.

In terms of player statistics, the striker Bogdan Istratie stands out, with 11 goals scored, he is also the current top scorer of the western series. In terms of assists, David Popa (4 assists) is the leading goal scorer of the last season. He is also Poli’s second top scorer with four goals. The leader in minutes on the pitch is midfielder Iosif Liviu Rotariu (1,349), followed by Istratie (1,305) and Nagy (1,291).
