Dan Alexa: “It will be a complicated match, but I have high expectations from our game”
Politehnica Timişoara meets on Thursday, February 18, the SCM Gloria Buzău team in the prologue of the 16th stage of League 2. It will be the first game in the second echelon in 2021. Dan Alexa, the head coach of the white-violets, was optimistic about the chances of his players to prevail in the duel over two days, but also stressed that the match is not announced very easily.
“We are before this beginning of the mini-return, we meet a team that aims to reach the playoffs. It’s a team that I understand has solved its problems. A team coached by a very experienced coach, Ilie Stan. It will be a complicated match, but I have high expectations from our game. I looked good with Astra, given that I met an opponent from the first echelon, of a higher level. It’s a very important game as a stake. The time is very short, we have five matches to play and we have to get the most out of them. Whatever calculation we make now, for how many points we need, for access to the playoffs, I tell you that it is not relevant, because there are a lot of games. We will have one less game, you know, Turnu Măgurele has retired, we are waiting for the decision of the commissions to know for sure the situation in the ranking. But what is certain is that the day after tomorrow we start the mini-return, with a very strong opponent, an opponent who plays football, formed by a mix of experienced players with young players. And it will certainly not be easy for us “, said Dan Alexa.
Asked about the fact that a decision has not yet been made regarding the matches that Turris-Oltul Turnu Măgurele played (or still had to play), a team withdrawn from the championship during the winter break, the Polytechnic technician answered: “I don’t know exactly what is happening there, we are all waiting, there is also that verdict of the match Universitatea Cluj – Farul Constanţa, which, in the same way, can decide a lot. We are ten teams fighting for six places and both Cluj and Farul are among them. We are waiting, I don’t know what to say about the fact that it was so late, but I hope to be able to find out the verdict that will be given as soon as possible“.
Thursday’s match was also prefaced by midfielder Petre Ivanovici. “A difficult match against Buzău awaits us, because I know that coach Ilie Stan puts a price especially on the physical side, it will be a fighting match. We hope that the field will be very good, in the match with Astra we did not have the chance to play on a good field, because otherwise I would have been the result. We had a good shot, goal opportunities, we could score, make it 2-0 and qualify further. Unfortunately, we are left with only that good game. We hope that in the match with Buzău we will play like this, but to win because we need three points “, said the one who, cumulating the successes from the Romanian Cup, is the top scorer of the white-violets.
Ivanovici also hopes to make up for it in the match with Buzau for the great opportunity wasted in the previous match: “Unfortunately I didn’t manage to score, I reviewed that phase… I hope to score in the match with Buzau and do it as often as possible, for that this is my goal for the team: to score and score points. We need to get into the playoffs and promote, that’s why we came here. I believe in this, because we have an experienced team, very good players, who played in League I and I don’t see why we couldn’t do this! ”.
The match Politehnica Timişoara – Gloria Buzău will be played on Thursday, February 18, at 15.00, on the “Dan Păltinişanu” stadium, in the 16th stage of League 2, still the access of the spectators is not allowed on the arenas. The game is televised (Digisport 1, Looksport 1, Telekomsport 1). The team prepared by Ilie Stan obtained 21 points from 14 games and occupies the 8th place, being three points behind the white-violets, in 4th place with the same number of matches played.
