The football team Politehnica Timisoara achieved a clear victory in League III. In the 14th round, the score was 3-0 (2-0) against leaders CSC Peciu Nou!

The first chance belonged to the team from the Timisoara commune, a team with many ex-players on the field and on the technical bench. Then, Mosoarcă turned a free kick into a corner (7 min.). Two minutes later, Istratie shot, the goalkeeper awarded a corner. In min. 16, D. Popa shoots extraordinarily from 20 m, the ball hits the bar! The opening goal came in the 23rd minute. Juniorul Boariu, who in his whole career has only played for Politehnica, sent from outside the box, from the left side, into the long corner, 1-0.

Peciu Nou try to equalize through Mura (35, shot over). Istratie (37) misses a diagonal pass into the box. He too, in the next minute, sends wide. He, too, in the 41st minute, is found in the box with a fantastic lob by D. Popa, is blocked by the goalkeeper, but the ball trickles into the net. Făndel (43rd, volley over) and Pamfile (45th, shot from outside the box against the bar) scored the last chances of the first half. 2-0 at half-time!

In the first minute after the restart, R. Ciurel saves a goal as if it was a done goal, blocking Enciu in extremis. Mosoarcă appears in front of Nicolescu (51). Marincu shoots, a defender deflects it for a corner (55). Four minutes later, goal scorer Istratie is fouled in the box by the goalkeeper. David Popa converts the spot-kick in the style made famous by Panenka in the final of Euro 1976, when Czechoslovakia beat the FRG in Belgrade. Enciu (66) shoots just wide. Ferțu (71) volleys over. Mosoarcă catches a free kick from Ignea (74).

Politehnica Timisoara: Mosoarcă – Nagy (90+2, Amariei), D. Roșu, Vlaicu, R. Ciurel – Pureca, I. L. Rotariu – Marincu (captain; 87, Mihăescu), D. Popa, Boariu (90+2, Grancea) – Istratie (87, Avramescu). On the bench: Enășescu – Miclăuș, Hus, D. Roșca, D. Ciurel. Coach: Cristian Gălan.

In the standings, Poli remains in 5th place, with 22 points, and is two points away from 4th place, the last play-off qualifier. In the next round, the last of the fall season, the student team will play at home against the “red lantern” Avântul Periam.

“We did what we usually do, I think we had more success today. We tried to play like in the other games. Probably in some games even the playing surface was an impediment for us. But today, being wet and softer, we probably didn’t suffer a lot in the build-up area as we have in other games. We scored three goals, we had very good finishing, we played a very good game! From stage to stage we have added something to the team’s game, which has been reflected in training. Including since the championship started – we tried to play, play, play. It didn’t work out for us or it worked out less and now, growing and probably on this path that we are on now, upwards so to speak, also in terms of play and results, I’m gaining more confidence in them and believing in what we do every day.

Really we haven’t changed in the last three games the first 11, because both in training and in the games, they show energy, they show enthusiasm, and even the game continues to grow. And it’s a rewarding thing for us and of course we hope to improve even more,” said Cristian Gălan, head coach of Politehnicii Timisoara.

A special moment for our technician today was the success of the young midfielder Denis Boariu (18 years old), a player who grew up 100% in the Politehnicii Academy and who started football under the command of Criti Gălan: “I was with him from his first goal in football and I am with him at his first goal in senior football, and I am very happy. I’m glad that he’s starting to get a little bit of the drag he’s got by making the transition to the seniors. Because he’s got a little bit of stage fright, and it’s slowly, slowly coming out. His teammates are really helping him a lot. And his performance is increasing day by day.”

“Of course we want to get into the play-offs, we’re not there yet. There are still four games to play, one now, another three in the period after we come back from vacation. It will be very, very important how we approach the next game, with Periam, because probably what happened in the game against Peciu was something, so, by chance, in Periam, and now they drew at home against Minerul Lupeni, who are a play-off team. So we can’t just say: ‘here comes Periam and we win the game! God forbid, on the contrary, we have to be much more focused, because it’s the last game and we have to get the most out of it. I mean to win the three points“, concluded Cristian Gălan.
