Politehnica Timişoara drew, away, with Unirea Slobozia, score 0-0, in the match that counted for the 17th round of League 2. The white-violets had the biggest chances of the match ended by the hosts in numerical inferiority.
About 60 white-purple supporters went to Slobozia. Fans making their voices heard, of course, from outside the arena. Politehnica had a great opportunity to score following a counterattack after 5 minutes, but Codrea’s shot from the left sailed high over the bar. 12 minutes later Ivanovici sent a long shot from distance, the goalkeeper rejected in front, but Plazonja reached the ball hard. Our striker fell in a duel with an opponent, but only a goal was dictated.
The hosts also had an important opportunity through Sory Diarra, whose replay on the back of the box was rejected by Hindrich from the long corner. The next few minutes, however, were quite poor in the goal phase, with a series of warnings in return. Codrea was also chosen with a “yellow”, very easily shown for a foul in the middle of the field.
The second half was also better started by the white-violets, but without creating very clear opportunities. After 64 minutes, Cioinac nearly put the visitors another one up as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot passed just over the bar. Another shot was close to being the right solution four minutes later, but the ball sent by Ivanovici was caught by Gurău in two strokes. The 69th minute brought a controversial phase, the goalkeeper Gurău again dropped the ball to Cioinac’s “free”, then Mera was contracted hard in front of the goal by a Union player, but the game continued and the same goalkeeper picked up the ball. The white-violets were unlucky also in the 75th minute, when Cioinac could not resume from the square a ball deflected by the wall in the fixed phase executed by Ivanovici. With 87 minutes gone, Gabriel Lazăr had to leave the pitch after talking back to the referee and receiving his second booking. The 89th minute brought a new “yellow” hilarious, to Munteanu, who had overtaken an opponent with the ball at his feet. The overtimes brought constant pressure on the hosts’ goal. Mera headed in a long corner, but a defender rejected for a new corner in the last minute of extra time, a corner kick also left without result.
Politehnica remains on the second position after this duel, with 28 points obtained in 16 matches counted. In the next stage, our team receives the visit of Metaloglobus Bucharest, a match scheduled for Sunday, March 7, from 13.00.
