The white-violet start tomorrow the new season of League 2 with a difficult trip to Cluj Arena. Coach Dorin Toma and his players are confident that Politehnica can have a successful season.

“We had a pretty good training period, even if it is a bit shorter than our competitors. We met a bit later by a few days. We managed to transfer quite a few players and make up for the missing players. We are suffering a little in terms of homogeneity, but we are trying stage by stage to homogenise the squad and we are trying to make our new players respect our principles of play. The first opponent is a very good League 2 opponent, we meet U Cluj away. We start a championship, as I said, quite difficult, with away games. Our opponent has also transferred a lot of players. As have we. But we want to play a good game, we are Poli Timisoara and we only play to win”, said Dorin Toma, Politehnica’s head coach.

“We are waiting for the championship to start because we had a good training period, we prepared very well. Tomorrow we have a tough match ahead of us, but we have to go positive, to win this match, because we want to win every match, whether it’s home or away. It will be a League 2 derby, there will probably be people in the stadium. There will be our gallery and there will be a nice football atmosphere, and I hope to make our supporters happy, after the match everyone will be satisfied,” said Ioan Mera, the captain of the white-violet team.

Our team won’t be able to count on the services of Cristian Scutaru and Sebastian Serediuc (concussion), injured.

“We announced at the time we formed the new company that after a year of searching for reorganization, we are indeed in a very important moment and we consider this year a transition year. I referred of course to the reorganisation of the society. From a sporting point of view, of course, every match has to be approached with victory and the efforts to strengthen a team, I think, have been outstanding. A lot of players have been brought in. Players who from a value point of view I think will be a plus for the team. Mr Dorin Toma told me that it’s also about rejuvenating the squad, there are many young players and a big advantage is that most of the players discussed have two-year contracts, so we have continuity in the project. And as an objective, of course, the first one for us, even if it means step by step the desire to get as many positive results as possible, is to get into the play-off, so from there we can look with confidence to the next steps. Of course it’s not up to us alone, there are many unknowns in this League 2 championship. Many teams in reorganization, teams that initially seem dismembered, but surprises can come…”, stressed Viorel-Aurel Șerban, president of Politehnica.

Robert Alin Popeț (born on August 2, 2001) is also part of the Politehnica squad for this season, who was injured in training and is in the process of recovery. The goalkeeper has signed a one-year contract with Politehnica. In the spring season he played 8 games for CSC Dumbrăvița, after 6 other appearances in the first part of last season, also in League 3, for ACS Poli. He also played for ACS Carani and CSC Ghiroda and Giarmata Vii.

The match FC Universitatea Cluj – Politehnica Timișoara, from the first round of League 2, will be played tomorrow at 18.00 (broadcasted by DigiSport 1, Telekom Sport 1 and Look +) at Cluj Arena stadium. The white-violets managed to win 1-0 in their previous direct duel in Ardeal.
