Politehnica Timişoara and Fortuna Becicherecu Mic joined their forces in the elite of women’s football

Politehnica Timişoara and Fortuna Becicherecu Mic today formalized a new partnership between the two clubs. Through the new association, the team from the commune of Timişoara, which finished on the 4th place of the 2020-21 season of the I Women’s League, will evolve from the new season under the aegis of the Polytechnic. Also, the collaboration is extended both at the level of facilities and in terms of the junior teams of the two entities. The project is coordinated by the general manager Mirel Albon, the most titled technician in Romanian women’s football and former selector of the national team.

The team from the first league will evolve in the next season under the name of Politehnica Timişoara and will have ambitious objectives: attacking the 1st place and accessing in a short time the groups of the continental competition number 1.

“I am happy to announce that starting next season, the Fortuna Becicherecu Mic team will evolve under the name of Politehnica Timişoara, I am very happy because women’s football deserves more emphasis and its presence under a brand, such as Politehnica, can only be an advantage for the girls team as well. Especially since their results were at the level of those we always want to have at the Politechnica “, said Florin Dragan, rector of the Polytechnic University of Timisoara.

“The concerns are older and, when the discussions advanced, between the mayor Raimond Rusu and the rector Florin Dragan, this formula, a collaboration protocol, was really reached, which pursues two important goals. The first of them is, indeed, for the Polytechnic to develop this coordinate in the sports movement. Let’s not forget that we currently have a team in League 2, ranked 4th, and at this moment the junior championship continues, where we have a team in the Under 17 category doua Second, Fortuna Becicherecu Mic has proved all these years that it is very close to achieving a dream, namely to become the national champion of Romania or to win a Cup. Something was missing every time and we hope that through this association, those reasons that led to failures will be eliminated “, said Viorel-Aurel Şerban, president of the Timişoara Polytechnic.

“We are happy to sign this protocol related to women’s football and we believe that from the experience gained in women’s football at the level of Fortuna Becicherecu Mic and by bringing Mirel Albon to the position of general manager to be a step forward for women’s football. Not only for the one from Timisoara, but also for women’s football in Romania! ”, Stated Marius Călin Paşca, the president of Fortuna Becicherecu Mic.

“After many discussions with those from the Politechnica University, I came to the conclusion that it is more beneficial for Timisoara and Timis County for these two entities, the Polytechnic University of Timisoara and Becicherecu Mic commune, Fortuna to take a step together to create a new team, which we can call the county benchmark. At present, in Timiş County football, there is no team in the first football league. We really want Politehnica to take the step in the near future with the boys’ team and I said that it is time for Becicherecu, through a good collaboration he has had over time with the rector and UPT to make a joint team, which will play under the traditional colors of the Timişoara Polytechnic. This year is the centenary of the Polytechnic and it is the right time to create an extra chance to win the national girls’ championship. And by bringing and collaborating coach Mirel Albon, who will be the general manager of the new team. We already have several girls in mind in order to strengthen the existing group “, added Raimond Rusu, the mayor of Becicherecu Mic commune.

Mirel Albon, the general manager of the new team, has already started to draw the new team, one of his collaborators will be Liviu Ivasuc (former coach of the women’s team from Baia Mare).

“I want to say that when I was contacted to discuss this project, I was attracted from the first moment. At that time I had some discussions with outside teams, I stopped them all, because it seems to me an absolutely special thing that can happen here. Timisoara is a more emancipated and developed city than many cities in Romania. Politehnica Timişoara is a special brand… You can be convinced that I will be 100% involved and I will put all my knowledge to the test and the energy I have. I am very motivated after a six-month break, to work again and to develop women’s football in Timisoara and Romania. At one time, it is very difficult to say how long or how short, here in Timisoara the anthem for the champion team will be sung. We want to build a beautiful club, we also have the gallery on our side, we also want to build an academy. Let’s offer conditions for all the little girls, from the area and then from the country, who want to play football in an organized environment. There are special facilities and conditions in Timisoara. In a short time we will win our own fans, because we will play a nice football. We came here to win trophies and to succeed in the shortest possible time to organize Champions League matches in women’s football in Timişoara! ”, Concluded Mirel Albon.

Fortuna Becicherecu Mic promoted in the elite of women’s football since the first year of activity. The highest performance was reached in the 2018-2019 season, when she played the Romanian Cup final and obtained the title of vice-champion of League 1.
