Politehnica Timisoara has accepted the resignation of head coach Nicolae Croitoru, as well as that of assistant coach Lucian Dobre.

Our club has also terminated its collaboration with Florin Iacob, who was the managing director of Politehnica Timisoara.

Nicolae Croitoru was born on 15 February 1967, in Targoviste (Dâmbovița). He holds a UEFA PRO licence and before coming to Timisoara he was head coach at Urban Titu, Chindia Targoviste and FC Pucioasa. With the team from Targoviste he was promoted to League 2 (2014-15).

“There were two distinct periods. A first period, I would say a good one, where things looked like we were on track, and then, at least after the end of the regular season, things looked totally different. I’m sorry, certainly we all wanted to achieve more, we worked hard, but that’s football… I wish the team good luck in Saturday’s game against Brasov and good luck, of course, going forward!”, Nicolae Croitoru.

Nicu Croitoru has been Politehnica’s head coach since early October last year. He has recorded five wins, three draws and eight defeats in our team’s League 2 games (including that 3-0 defeat to Petrolul), plus a 1-2 home defeat to FC Brasov in the relegation play-off. In the Romanian Cup, with the coach from Dambov, the white-violet defeated Rapidul in the last 16 (score 2-0) and reached the quarter-finals, where they lost to FC Argeș on penalties (score 4-5, after 0-0 in regulation time plus two overtime periods).

In the last game of the season, the return leg of the League 2 play-off against FC Brasov (score 1-2 in the first leg), Politehnica’s interim head coach will be Antonio Foale, who will be supported by experienced midfielder Alin Ignea as interim assistant coach.
