The Blue and Whites started well but finished poorly in another game this season. Cosmin Bîrnoi opened the scoring for Politehnica today, but the guests from FK Csikszereda quickly equalized and then scored in the penultimate minute for 1-2 in the encounter that counted for the 7th round of League 2.

The match started perfectly for Politehnica, with a goal in the first minute! Ursu tried to slide a ball past Gyenge in a one-on-one duel with him, and the goalkeeper deflected it to the far corner, where Cosmin Bîrnoi shot into the net. But just ten minutes later Lorant Kovacs restored parity with a header from Gal-Andrezly’s cross. It could have been 2-1 in the 34th minute for our team, but after a good takeover, Scutaru didn’t hit hard enough over the goalkeeper and Gyenge recovered the ball.

Moreover, in the 44th minute Mera was fouled in the opponent’s box by Bor and a penalty was awarded. From the spot Octavian Ursu failed to beat the same Gyenge, who anticipated his shot, parrying to his right. On the next cross into the opponent’s box Takacs knocked Ursu down, but nothing was called.

The second half was less spectacular and the white-violet’s play gradually faded. The game seemed to be heading for a draw, but in the 89th minute Schieb crossed in front of goal and David Bor gave the Cycans all the points.

Following this defeat, Politehnica is in an unenviable 14th place with seven points, followed right behind Csikszereda, which after a poor start to the championship has now accumulated six points. Our team’s next game will be on Wednesday 22 September, at 16.30, away against Unirea Slobozia, in the round of 16 of the Romanian Cup.

“Unfortunately we still say that after the last three games: we could have won, we could have scored points, we can’t coach bad luck, we can’t coach bad luck. It’s the second game we’ve lost in the 90th minute, it’s frustrating. You realise we’re also losing confidence. We expected to win today’s game for our supporters, who are there for better or worse, unfortunately the lack of results is driving them away too. We wanted to get over the less good period in terms of results and overcome it today with a win. We started the game very well, we played very well too… when the opponent has two crosses in the box and we lose, what can we do? We have to keep going, keep our heads down, work harder, be humble, because that’s also a problem. We could have taken the lead at half-time, with 11 yards in the 45th minute, we would have managed it differently, but that’s it… Let’s keep quiet as much as possible and work much harder”, said Dorin Toma, Politehnica’s head coach.
