Politehnica makes its debut tomorrow in the Romanian Cup, a competition that is being held in a new format starting with the current edition. The white-violet play in the 3rd round away against CSM Reșița (League 3).

“I’m going to try to use the best team… that is the players I think are 100% fit. We will also see the situation in terms of injuries and medical problems and try to line up the best team because we want to win and qualify. That’s for sure, I won’t spare any players, whoever is fit to play will play, even if he played on Saturday and maybe even if he will play in Dej. There is no question of mentioning absolutely nobody and we are not in that position”, said Bogdan Andone, head coach of Politehnica, about the Cup game.

We remind you that in the 2021-22 edition of the Romanian Cup our team was one step away from qualifying for the semi-finals, Politehnica was overcome in the quarter-finals by FC Argeș following the execution of a penalty shootout (score 4-5, after 0-0 in extra time and in regulation time).

The coach also talked about the team’s plans during the championship break. The weekend of 24-25 September will be without games in League 2 being the “international break”. “Probably we will do a centralized training, we will see where, or what conditions we will find, at least in the first week we will do a cycle of two daily trainings, because there are still many things to be put in place and corrected and I think we will take advantage in that first week (n.r. 19-25 September), because in the second we will enter the normal cycle. There will be some more intense training and at the end of the week I hope we will find an opponent and have a friendly match on Saturday to continue our training cycle. And we need that break, we really need it, seeing the results and the game. There are fragments of the game that are good or that give us hope and there are fragments of the game, like Saturday, in which we made two tactical mistakes that cost us (…)”, concluded Andone.

The match CSM Reșița – Politehnica Timisoara, in the third round of the Romanian Cup, will be played tomorrow, September 14, at 15.00 (live on FRF.TV), in a single leg, at the “Mircea Chivu” stadium in Valea Domanului.

The previous official game between the two was in the fourth round of League 2, season 2020-21, when a goalless draw was recorded. Three years ago CSM Reșița won 1-0 against Politehnica in the 4th round of the Romanian Cup. Both games also took place at the Valea Domanului arena.

The team coached by Călin Cheregi qualified for this stage after beating Voința Lupac 6-0 away in the second round.

The next phase of the competition, in the new format, involves a play-off, which will also include eight teams from League I (the three newly promoted teams + places 9-13 from last season). Then, the winners of this play-off phase plus the other eight teams from the first tier (places 1-8) will qualify for the groups. More information on the new format HERE.
