On Sunday, May 11, Politehnica Timisoara defeated Sepsi OSK and got the points needed for the mathematical promotion to the Women’s Superliga.
It was a match dominated head-to-head by the white-violets. Up to the opening goal, our players were beating each other in misses, with the goalkeeper of the visiting team in excellent form. Aida Bucșa, Anda Jivan, Andreea Șepepețan, Elena Petrișor, Ariana Bucșa and Bianca Corsei missed important chances. The 28th minute brought the first goal, Aida Bucșa shooting powerfully from about 18 meters. The same Aida missed another chance, and in the 39th minute her twin Ariana doubled our advantage with a half-footed shot after a cross by Bianca Corsei. Before half-time Andreea Sepețan gets a penalty kick and she scores from the penalty spot.
The only big chance for the visitors came at the start of the second half, when Rebeca Ardelean shot from 20 meters, but Cosmina Rosu saved in the corner. In the 52nd minute Andreea Șepepețan chases down a through ball and passes in front of goal, from where Ariana Bucșa puts the ball in for 4-0. We totally dominate the match, and the 60th minute brings Dana Cioablă’s goal, a shot into the top corner from over 18 meters. Goals number 6 and 7 have the same protagonists as goal 2: Bianca Corsei insists, recovers the ball and breaks into the box, passing to Ariana Bucșa who scores two more goals. Immediately after the restart, Andreea Șepepețan escapes alone towards the goal and runs past the keeper, setting the final score 8-0.
Final whistle and immense joy among our team, which has achieved promotion to the Women’s SuperLiga. In the next round of League 2, we play away against ACS Atletic Drobeta, on Sunday, May 18, from 12:00 noon at Severnav Stadium.
We note in this stage the debut for the senior team of the player Sara Codrea, born in 2009.
“Promotion to the Women’s SuperLiga – a dream come true. Looking back at our course in this championship, I believe that we were undoubtedly the team that played the best football. It is true that we had some difficulties, but these were natural given the youth of the squad. That’s why both promotion to the Super League and the clear points difference from second place are fully deserved. This promotion reflects the ambition, determination and desire of our extraordinary sportswomen to succeed. And in the not so good times, it was the cohesion and team spirit that gave us the strength to go further.
Achieving the goal set at the beginning of the season – access to the Women’s SuperLiga – is the most important achievement of my coaching career. I am sure that some of my colleagues in the staff feel the same, as well as most of the players in the current squad. Thank you to everyone who has supported us! We go forward in the SuperLeague with confidence and hope!” said coach Orlando Stefan.
