Heroes never die! Under this slogan, an amateur football tournament for Romanians in the USA was held in Southern California. Three teams took part: one of the police fans, another of the pensioners, both with special guests, plus one of the Romanians from the San Diego area.

The Consul General of Romania in Los Angeles, Cosmin Dumitrescu, was also present and attended the minute’s silence at the beginning of the tournament in memory of the martyrs, cut the flag from the antedecembrist flag and gave a short speech about the importance of those days that sparked the Revolution in Timișoara.

The football event “Today in Timișoara, tomorrow all over the country – Heroes never die” was the first edition.

In the match between the supporters representing Politehnica Timișoara and Ripensia Timișoara, the white-violet won 4-0, with goals scored by Andrew Marc, Cristian Rus and Darius Rus (twice), and took possession of the first trophy at stake, Timișoara Revolution Memorial.

There was also a victory for Polista in the second game, against the Romanian national team from the San Diego area, so the Viola fans also got the trophy awarded to the winner of the tournament, Romanian Revolution Memorial.

Among the Poles, Nicu Anca was named the best goalkeeper and the best player of the competition, Adi Bojin and Dani Măreț were the tournament goal scorers (with 3 goals each), and Darian Rus was named the best young player. The team coach was Silviu Vesa, and among the players in the squad were Ovidiu Mara, spokesman of the Poli of America SG association, who made the trip from Arizona, and Narcis Drăgan, president of this entity.

Poli of America SG has about 40 official Druckeria members and displayed a banner at the tournament: “Timisoara needs a stadium”!

The event was organized by Narcis Drăgan, Claudiu Petrea (captain of the San Diego team) and Marius Tomescu (Ripensia fans coach). The latter is the initiator of the Dacia Football Club project in California three years ago.
