Cristian Gălan, coach of Politehnicii Timișoara, declared himself proud of his pupils after Saturday’s emphatic 5-0 success against CSC Ghiroda and Giarmata Vii and securing their place in the play-off play-off of League 3, Series 9.
“So basically we have achieved our objective, saving ourselves from relegation, quicker than perhaps some people were saying at the start of the preparations. We are happy with today’s result because it shows that the work we have been putting in over the last few months is not in vain. And I am very very proud of them. I really cannot tell them how proud I am of them.
I’m very happy for Fabi because in the first part of the championship he worked a lot, he didn’t have the expected successes for an attacking player but the fact that we moved him to another position seems to have helped him and he has already scored five goals in two games, which I think is great for an attacking player, considering that we may meet teams that defend well, that defend crowded, but I’m glad we made this decision to move him and for him that he has these successes. I substituted him at half-time because he was in some pain. I replaced him for medical reasons, not because he scored three goals and I had to change him… I replaced him medically. Unfortunately Denis (n. Boariu) came in maybe a little bit too nervous for this game, because we all know what a heavy load this game had. As a proof at the end of it we are in the play-offs and everybody was saying that it’s very difficult to be there and it seems that we are the first team to be there. Then we had to change Denis as well, but these are things that happen in the life of a team, in other times players have played great matches, like Denis did against Peciu and so on. So there’s no problem that he played poorly today, that’s it, we move on and we have to get as much as we can from the next games. Because when we do the right thing on the pitch, the results are sure to follow. We have a beautiful group of kids, who work day in and day out to progress and take this team as high as possible”, said Cristian Gălan, Politehnicii’s head coach.
“I don’t have words to say what I felt on the sidelines, when I saw after a very long time, and not only now that I’ve been a coach, but also when there were other coaches, that the first and second stands were singing together. For me that was like a reminder of the times when we were playing and the crowd was very, very close to the team. In the week leading up to this game, I even told the players that they had achieved something very important from my point of view – they managed to make Poli visible in the city again. Which I think is a great thing. They forgot about us, but look, through hard work and seriousness we managed to be visible again, because the demand for this match was very high. And everyone wanted to see this match and this shows that they worked very hard and raised the level to bring people to the pitch”, said Cristi Gălan.
“It’s a very important win for us and, honestly, we’re in first place at the moment and we’ll keep it that way. I can’t say when I’ve scored in a half, I’m happy for the personal goals, but I’m much happier for the team victory. That’s the most important thing. I was substituted at half-time with a small injury, I don’t know what it is exactly, I have to see and I’ll be fine for the next stage, for after the match against Șag. As many points as possible and promotion. We are in the play-off, so the next step is next. We take each match individually and get the maximum, that’s all we think about. We are not thinking about a draw, about something else, only about winning”, said captain Fabian Marincu, who scored a hattrick in the duel against CSC Ghiroda and Giarmata Vii.
