Politehnica Timisoara won 2-1 (0-1) in the friendly played on Wednesday at the “Știința” arena against CSC Peciu Nou, the leader of Series 9 of League 3. The goals were scored by Alex Nagy and Ionuț Moș, both first goalscorers for our team, the latter being even for the first time the author of a goal at senior level.
The game started badly for Poli, who were charged with a penalty in the first minute for a foul. From the penalty spot Denis Bud (min. 2) opened the scoring with a shot to the left of Enășescu, who headed into the opposite corner. The young Light Blues tried to hit back five minutes later, but two consecutive corners were unsuccessful despite Radu Ciurel’s deflection (8). The first half was still evenly balanced, but also with many interruptions. By half-time the most important chance belonged to the visitors, when Enciu (39) headed a deflected ball against the crossbar.
The second half belonged almost entirely to the Light Blues, who had their first good chances in the 47th and 48th minutes. First Popa’s low low ball was cleared off the goal line by Hecsko, then Istratie’s rebound was wide. The first goal for Poli came in the 60th minute, when Victor Prună sent a filtering pass to Alex Nagy. Arriving in the box, the left-back didn’t lose his temper and sent a right-footed shot past the keeper for 1-1. Istratie could have made it 2-1 just five minutes later after a solitary run, but his low low shot from the bottom corner was cleared with no problems. In the 81st minute, the White-Violets finally took the lead as the game progressed when Nagy, used at right-back at the end, crossed low into the long corner from where youngster Ionuț Moș, who will turn 16 on March 16, scored with a shot that hit the crossbar before going in. In the last minute of the game another junior, Fabian Rosu, could have added to the scorers’ tally, but his close-range rebound was sensed by the goalkeeper, who had first denied the ball in front.

“We chose to play two friendlies this week to share the minutes between the players. To have as many minutes as possible, because we have to make a decision, to establish what we want to do in the first stage at Viitorul. As players, as positions, as names. It was a very good friendly with an organized team, a good team. On that note, I would like to congratulate Mr. Velcea on his return to coaching. Timis definitely needed him and I am glad he is back. We played a good match, except for the first minute, in which we were out of sync, we didn’t win the ball and we got that penalty. The boys played a very good game, they had intensity, they enjoyed playing. All in all I’m pleased with the game.
Ionuț, 15 years old, scored his first goal at senior level, we are happy for him, in the dressing room even the boys were very happy for his success and this gives us hope. Because we bring them to training, we keep them in training, they’ve been training with us all this period, those who came in the winter from the juniors, and we’re really sorry that at some point we’ll have to give one or two or three maybe back to the juniors, we bring them gradually because we are too many in training and it’s hard to manage the number of players, but I’m very happy for them. I’m happy that they’re getting on the pitch and showing what they’ve learned during their development. Their attitude is on par, they don’t shy away at any point from putting in the effort and having the right duels for the game. I congratulate Ionuț for this goal, I congratulate Alex as well, because it’s his first goal for the team as well. He is a full-back who makes a pretty good offensive contribution and today he was crowned with a goal. It was a very good game,” said Cristian Gălan, head coach of Politehnicii.
Missing today were D. Ciurel (injured) and Vlaicu (off, exams). Poli’s next test, the fifth of the winter, follows in just two days, on Friday, from 15.30, also at the “Știința” arena, against CSM Unirea Alba Iulia (2nd place in C7).
